Dairyland Dare - 8/11/12

The Dairyland Dare is the third in the "Tripple Crown" series of bike rides in Wisconsin.  Yes, it was in August, and yes this is retro-news, but it was pretty cool and worth a mention here.  We had eight club members riding in the 150k and 200k events.  In the 150k we had susan Griffee (7:23:51), Peter Maves (7:29:04), Paige Reeves (7:40:23), Ann Moyer (8:13:45), and Marie Harke (8:14:02).  In the 200k it was Joe Moyer (8:25:15), Dan Harke (9:56:18), and Mike Ewen (9:58:33).

Xterra Estrella Mountain 20k

Reported by Paige Reeves

I completed the Xterra Estrella Mountain 20k in Goodyear, AZ on Oct 7. It was a very challenging & technical 12.56 miles, including a rattlesnake sighting at mile 11. The terrain was non-stop rocks and single track at best. A few runners became bloody casualties of the course. I ran unscathed, save for a few cactus kisses and finished in 2:27:43 (7th age group, F 35-39). There were 150 finishers overall, I think. Official stats online. No fans or potties on course, but it was well marked and there was plenty of nutrition and supportive volunteers.

Chicago Marathon - 10/7/12

It was Chicago Mega-marathon weekend this weekend.  Susan Griffee turned  in a Boston Qualifying time.  She had quite the competition as well with more females in her age group than people in a lot of Minnesota towns!  Way to go Susan!

Twin Cities Marathon & 10 Mile - 10/7/12

It was Twin Cities Marathon weekend with an Expo and several races on Saturday (including kid’s races) and the Marathon and 10 Mile race on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day Sunday albeit pretty chilly with temperatures in the 20’s for the start.  On the marathon we had 11 finishers and 3 (maybe 4) Boston qualifiers (* Peter, Shaun, and Kelle had qualifying times, and Paul was extremely close – not sure how they round now).

In the 10 mile race we had four members.  They call that race the “short-cut to the Capitol” – but it may just be the toughest 10 miles of the marathon course!

Way to go all you marathoner’s and 10-miler’s!

Green Bay Duathlon - 10/6/2012

Turns out the upper mid-west multisport season was not quite over yet.  The Green Bay Duathlon in Wisconsin featured a metric and imperial set of distances starting with a 5 Kilometer run, followed by a 29 Mile bike and a 1 Mile run to finish up.

We had two TriRochester members in the race; both with great finishes.  Ann netted a collection of goodies and trophy as the first place female overall.  In the process, Ann also set a new course record!

Birkie Trail Runs - 9/22/12

Photo credit: Jenny ShulhaEight Tri-Rochester members headed to Wisconsin for the Birkie Trail runs on September 22. This is the same Birkie as the ski race, except no snow – well, at least it is supposed to be no snow.  Ironically, the same year that the ski race was in danger of having no snow, early risers in the run race woke to snow coming down pretty hard!  Luckily it didn’t add up to anything significant.

(from the event website) “The 10th Birkie Trail Run & Trek offers several fun and challenging events including the Individual Marathon Run, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, Birkie Trek Nordic Walk and the 5K Fun Run! The events are guaranteed to challenge even the strongest runners and Nordic Walkers.

All events take place on the famous and hilly Birkie trail at one of the most beautiful times of the year in the Cable-Hayward, WI area. The course is wide, mowed, and relatively free from rocks and roots.”  http://www.birkie.com/page/show/110428-birkie-trail-run-and-trek

Treadman Duathlon - 9/22/12

3.3 Mile Run, 21.6 Mile Bike, 3.3 Mile Run

On September 22, 2012 several TriRochester members raced the seventh annual Treadman Duathlon. Based in Pine Island, this duathlon has a challenging bike course and brings out some of the fastest cyclists around. This year’s race was a chilly one with temps in the low 40’s at the start and an overly-fresh northwest wind.  We had several TriRochester members and friends racing.  Here are the results.  (Note that we divided out the results back into the 5 year age groups that were presented at the race, which differs from the full results posted online.)

Ironman Wisconsin - 9/9/12

For many triathletes in this area, Ironman Wisconsin is the culminating event of the season. This year, TriRochester was well-represented by the fourteen athletes competing. Of the fourteen, this was the first time at the full-iron distance for twelve. All club members finished with smiles and had a great day. There were also several club members in Madison to volunteer and cheer on friends and family. Madison is a spectacular race for both athletes and spectators alike. Great job everyone!
