Burrito Union 5 & 10 Tri - 9/8/12

This is a uniqueely formatted triathlon in Superior Wisconsin where the distance is not fixed, but rather the time.  You can choose between the 5 hour and 10 hour Tri and in either case you compete as many full swim/bike/run circuits as you can in that time.  The swim is a 600 yard counter-clockwise triangle in the lake in Pattison Park.  The bike course is a 15 mile out and back course and the run is a 3 mile trail run.

Congratulations to Bobby Miller who placed 3rd overall in the 10 hour division finishing 6 full tri's in 9:19:43!

Hy-Vee Triathlon - 9/2/12

Hy-Vee Triathlon and 5150 US Championship
Des Moines, IA – Sept. 2nd, 2012

The Hy-Vee triathlon has a tradition of being one of the biggest races in the US with the largest cash prizes for the winners.  As such it has drawn some top-notch talent.  This year it also hosts the 5150 Championships (Olympic distance).  We had two club members racing this year.  Alex qualified for the 5150 age group elite championship division earlier in the year and Erich was competing in the age group division.  Both divisions consisted of a 1.5k swim, 40k bike, and 10k run.

Minneapolis Duathlon - 2012

It is getting to be Duathlon season again in Minnesota!

Team Ortho produced the Minneapolis Duathlon on August 26, 2012. Three TriRochester members competed out of over 2000 athletes. This race features a 5K Run, 15.8 Mile Bike, 5K Run course. It is a popular race for relay teams....Actually, a very popular race for relays.  Many races barely have enough relays to fill out the medals, but in Minneapolis, there were separate categories for combinations of 2-person, 3-person, male-only, female only, and mixed.  The largest of these was the 2-person mixed relay with 90 teams!  This was a really big duathlon in general and we had some great finishes in the club.  Nice job!

Lake Marion - 8/19/12

The lake Marion Triathlon in Lakeville MN on August 19th featured a Sprint and Olympic distance race.  We had four club members there.  I managed to catch two of them on course (above), but Phil and Andy were too stealth.  It was a nice day, but it was also a bit of a wake up call that the long summer days were starting to become numbered when we rolled into the high-school parking lot in complete darkness (and watched bikers riding over to transition).  Both courses had a single loop swim and bike, and the Olympic course did a double out and back of the sprint run course. For those looking for a late season race, this one is highly recommended. Plenty of volunteers and a nice bike course made for a nice end to the season.

My First Tri - 8/25/12

TriFitness White Bear Lake
25 August, 2012
400yd swim/ 10 mile bike/ 2 mile run

Bruce and Tammy Costigan completed their first triathlons at My First Tri. Bruce said this is a great race for first time racers. It had lots of volunteers, a great course and tons of support to help participants have a fun first experience in the sport. They limit the field to 150 participants to keep things very manageable.  This race is sponsored by TriFitness in White Bear Lake and there is also a June race.  Big congrats to the both of you!

Ironman US Championships in New York, NY

Congratulations to Don Reichelt on his race at the Ironman US Championship race on August 11th, 2012.  Don may be the only TriRochester member to ever complete this race, due to the uncertainty of future races being able to be held at this venue  This was a unique race in a unique location.  Participants took a ferry get to the point-to-point swim in the Hudson, got to ride on Palisades Parkway (closed to traffic) and got to run across the George Washington bridge.  Nice job by Don getting a PR on a challenging course with a 1:00:15 swim, 6:15:51 bike, and a 4:55:45 run, finishing in 12:22:12!

Monthly Social and Clinic - 8/30/12

We have a happy hour this Thursday at Glynner's Pub.  We will push it back a little bit to around 7pm so as not to conflict with the bike skills clinic.  Speaking of, for those members who are interested in getting into the clinic, there is still some space.  Look in the forum for info on signing up.

For new and renewing 2012 members, if you have not gotten your membership gift yet, come out the the happy hour and you can pick them up.
